March so far, good birds! There's a Townsend's warbler in the yard each morning:
And I've spotted this Hermit thrush a couple of times.
And a plethora of goldfinches.
So I took off to White Point Preserve on the coast in Palos Verdes for a birding with Bob morning.
Allen's hummingbirds, a few of them. The big news of the day were the Whimbrels, which apparently have never been recorded here during March, but we saw this flock of 10. They are shore birds, migratory.
We saw several common yellow-throat warblers, not a great photo below. Also nesting bushtits, a pair of American kestrels, towhees, a purple finch, starlings, house finches, goldfinches. Next month will be better there, with more migration.
